Extra-Curricular Activities

Seagull Academy for Independent Living provides the ideal balance of a customized educational program along with the traditions and activities that students have loved for generations. Whether it’s playing a sport, cheerleading, visiting a farm, exploring the community through field trips, or attending prom, students at SAIL have numerous opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities.

At SAIL, our goal is to provide our students with a full array of activities to enhance their academic and social skills. We offer music, art and yoga as part of our holistic educational programs. In addition, SAIL hosts a joint after-school program focused on music and art with students from nearby arts magnet school, Dreyfoos School of the Arts.

Students also can participate in the Best Buddies program where each is paired with a student from Dreyfoos or another area school, establishing one-to-one friendships.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in culinary internships with the Suncoast High School Culinary Club and in restaurant internships at several area restaurants, including LongBoards, Mayacoo Country Club, and City Cellar.

A highlight of each school year is SAIL’s prom. From decorating the venue to getting dressed in formalwear and dancing, the students enjoy all the aspects of this traditional high school experience.
