Supported Employment program brings in new partnership

Summary: On weekend mornings at the Dunkin’ Donuts in the Shoppes at Ibis, the new guy on the crew greets everyone with a genuine smile as he wipes tables and cleans the lobby. The work comes easy, but the new position is exciting for Zachary Weber, who is on his first real job. It’s the most recent success story for the Supported Employment program of Seagull Services – a new employment partner and another student in a real job. It built from a meeting between Dunkin’ Donuts manager, Dalton Balbinot and Supported Employment Outreach Coordinator Peg Rozzi. more…

Seagull Services welcomes new board members

Summary: Seagull Services is pleased to announce that Judith L. Dynia and Jim Weber have joined its Board of Directors. Each will serve for a two-year term. Judy Dynia is a career professional in the field of fundraising and development, having worked for over 15 years for The New York City Police Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides resources for innovative NYPD programs that help to make New York City a safer place to live, work and visit. As Director of Development, she raised millions of dollars through special events, program proposals and targeted mailings. more…

Seagull Services announces creation of Barbara Nurenberg Legacy Fund

Summary: In honor of the life and legacy of Barbara Nurenberg, Seagull Services has created the Barbara Nurenberg Legacy Fund. Ms. Nurenberg served as Seagull’s President and CEO from November, 2013, until she passed away on November 29, 2018. Her lifelong dedication to special populations and her unwavering commitment to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities are reflected in the lives of all the program participants of Seagull Services. more…

Seagull’s adult program participants become performers, host presentations on Black History Month and National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Summary: This quarter, Seagull Services program participants saw themselves through a different lens as they took part in performances that marked Black History Month in February and National Developmental Disabilities Awareness month in March. Beginning with research that broadened their knowledge of famous people of color in and famous individuals with disabilities, each participant played a role in a series of skits and music during performances at Seagull Services. Their skits depicted moments in the lives of several famous African Americans, including Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play baseball on an all-white team, Rosa Parks and her groundbreaking bus ride, and Katherine Johnson whose work on the NASA Space Program was portrayed in Hidden Figures. more…
