SPOTLIGHT on Olivia Morris

Thursday, February 25, 2021

Meet Olivia Morris, Ed.S., Director of Supported Employment at Seagull Services. She joined the staff two years ago.
Ms. Morris is a former administrator at Palm Beach State College, Miami Dade College, and Sylvan Learning Center. Her educational background includes a bachelor of science degree from Florida State University, master’s in Educational Leadership and an Educational Specialist degree with a concentration in Adult and Community Education from Florida Atlantic University.
Under her leadership, Seagull’s Supported Employment program has been formalized with a curriculum that combines the necessary job-seeking and life skills as well as career exploration through site visits and internships. The best part, she says, is creating a positive learning environment where our students and clients can learn life and employability skills to help them transition into independence.
She and her staff work constantly with students and adult clients who are ready to transition to employment away from Seagull. In addition to the Supported Employment program, she runs Seagull’s Employment Launch, a 20-hour job-training program for young adults 18-25 years old who need a jump on their career search.

One of her most rewarding experiences was taking the Employment Launch program to students at Pahokee High School, an outreach program Seagull plans to resume in the future.
“In the Employment Launch Program, the students learned employability skills, how to create resumes, participate in role-plays to enhance their interview skills, and to develop interpersonal relationship skills,” she said.
When she’s not working, she likes to read, go to the beach, and travel.
